Better Angels - Sacramento

A bipartisan citizen's movement working to unify our divided nation

Better Angels Events

Better Angels holds workshop and other events that  bridge the polarizing political divide we have in this country.  These events allow conservatives and liberals to get past destructive stereotypes so we can have civil conversations about real issues that lead to productive problem-solving.

  • Red / Blue Workshops    Equal numbers of conservatives and liberals come together for structured conversations.  The purpose of the Red / Blue workshop is to understand each other's point of view, not to argue or change someone's beliefs.

  • Skills Workshops   Learn and practice communication skills for talking to friends and loved ones across the political divide.

  • Better Angels Debates   These are structured conversations where everyone speaks, listens and thinks together to grapple with a difficult issue.  These are not like traditional, competitive debates.   Everyone is encouraged to participate.  Learn more about Better Angels Debates here.

  • Public Presentations    We host periodic public forums, panels and presentations on current political topics.

Better Angels Debate - Abortion / Choice

Should Heart Beat Bills be Repealed?  What are your views on this question? Come speak your mind.

What’s a Better Angels Debate?   A Better Angels Debate is a highly structured conversation in which a group of people speak, listen and think together to grapple with a difficult topic.  Everyone is encouraged to express their views.

Goals:

  • To engage in a process that gets us all a little closer to the truth.
  • To become more aware of the validity of differing views.
  • To build tighter community relationships.

The Process:  We’ll use modified parliamentary procedures to create an atmosphere of decorum and respect.  We ask and expect participants to behave respectfully toward one another.  At this debate, we will speak for and against the following resolution:

"Resolved:  Laws that prohibit abortion after a fetal heartbeat is detected should be repealed."
