Better Angels - Sacramento

A bipartisan citizen's movement working to unify our divided nation

Better Angels Events

Better Angels holds workshops, debates and public presentations designed to bridge the polarizing political divide we have in this country.  These events allow conservatives and liberals to get past the destructive stereotypes we have of one another so we can have civil conversations about real issues that lead to productive problem-solving.

  • Red / Blue Workshops    Equal numbers of conservatives and liberals come together for structured conversations.  The purpose of the Red / Blue workshop is to understand each other's point of view, not to argue with the other side or change someone's beliefs.  These are invitation-only events.

  • Skills Workshops   Learn and practice communication skills for talking to friends and loved ones across the political divide.

  • Better Angels Debates   Come participate in a Better Angels Debate!   These are structured conversations where everyone thinks and listens together to grapple with a difficult issue.  These are not like traditional, debates, where people compete to win.   Everyone is encouraged to express their views.  You can read more about Better Angels Debates here.

  • Public Presentations    We host periodic public forums, panels and presentations on current political topics.

Better Angels Debate - Healthcare

What’s a Better Angels Debate?   Come participate in a Better Angels Debate!   These are structured conversations where everyone thinks and listens together to grapple with a difficult issue.   Everyone is encouraged to express their views.

These are not like traditional, debates, where people compete to win.   You probably haven’t experienced anything like it!

Goals:

  • To engage in a process through which, together, we might get a little closer to the truth.
  • To become more aware of the validity of differing views.
  • To build tighter community relationships.

The Process:  We’ll use modified parliamentary procedures, which help to create an atmosphere of decorum and respect. We ask and expect participants to behave respectfully toward one another, whether they’re speakers, or have a question for the speaker, or are simply there to listen.

For details about attending this debate, please register at this link.
